QUALIFYING AND RACE REPORT

McLaren again dominated qualifying but this time were only six tenths faster than the excellent Barrichello in third spot for his home GP. The Ferraris put on another average show with Shumacher M in fourth and Irvine in sixth. The Benetton sepparated the two Ferrari's.

All in all an uneventful qualifying, except for the amazing Barrichello

An eventful start to the race saw Coulthard stall on the grid, and finally rejoin two laps down. Barrichello wowed the fans by taking second spot (thanks to Coulthard) and then took first when Hakkinen had some sort of problem. At this point it looked like the McLaren would retire, but somehow the fault corrected itself and the Finn was on his way again. Barrichello looked good in the lead, but his two stop fuel strategy was to prove the wrong choice and he fell back until he retired.

Hakkinen and Shumacher dueled for the rest of the race, but the Finn evetually walked it in over 4 seconds ahead of the Ferrari.

Let's hope the rest of the season is better than this...

BRIT BOYS ROUND UP

David Couthard:
Deja Vu for the Scot, it looks like it's going to be 1998 all over again.

Eddie Irvine
After his maiden win five weeks ago, Irvine was back to his old self. Doing very little of significance.

Damon Hill:
A poor qualifying saw him just ahead of his team mate in seventh place. He was just about the first retirement after an altercation with Wurz.

Johnny Herbert:
How can Johnny possibly change his luck? A very poor (compared to his team mate) performace in qualifying was followed up by an extremely poor race.
