Totally Great Stuff is back on-line! As of 22.6.99 the site is back. If you want to read the tale of caution please scroll to the bottom, it might just save your life...
Warning: Site may contain profanity, violence, nudity and more crap than you can throw a horse at.
(Also a bit of useful information).

This site is best viewed using IE4 or above, with lots and lots of colours and in 1024x768 res. (Although it will look OK in 800x600). Anyone using 640x480 should upgrade their hardware and then come back.

EXPLANATION: I normally use Frontpage 98 editor to construct the pages, but this doesn't allow much control over hyperlinks, and really causes headaches when it decides to link everything locally instead of dynamically (and when it re-writes code generated in other apps - image maps spring to mind). But anyway, the editor isn't too bad - but to get more control I changed the local copy of the site on my hard disk in to a Frontpage web, so that I could use the Frontpage Explorer to mess with file and link locations and then, as FortuneCity do not use Frontpage extensions, I would use ordinary FTP to upload my files.

This is when the mess began. First I converted the local folder in to a a Frontpage web, it took ages but when done was pretty nifty. I could organise the site by moving files around and it would always retain the link integrity - fantastic. Unfortunately Frontpage also makes many replications of files so that it can keep track of what is going on. It stores these modifications in folders named _vti_cnf and _vti_pvt (well, I think that's what it's doing). So when I FTP'd the files up, it also took all the _vti_ folders (one per folder and sub folder on the entire site) it had created with it. I had basically 150+ files arranged in 10 folders. So what I ended up with, after Frontpage had got hold of it was 500+ files. To get around the problem I had to manually create folders on the server and then copy the files up to the folder from the hard disk. This was too tedious and boring. So I gave up...

I now have to remove all the _vti_ shit and get the site back to normal. I am switching to Macomedia Dreamweaver, a far superior, in my opinion, product. Oh and if any one from Microsoft is reading this I am also switching my company web development from Microsoft products to Macromedia. Not that it matters a shit of difference to Microsoft what I choose, they can continue to churn out half arsed products and then force the industry to adopt their sloppy standards. Oh and if anyone is thinking of buying Frontpage 2000, I have tried the beta version and it sucks. There are almost no improvements except the combination of editor and explorer in to one.

FUCK YOU Microsoft. You make web developemt a bloody nightmare. (but I do like IE5 :) )
